Old Colonnade Photo 1979

The Colonnade Diner on Hylan was first built in 1975. It was run and is still owned and operated by the Platis Family to this day. The year that we opened was special, the United States was getting ready for a huge Bicentennial celebration and the Flags of the new Diner were flying. There was a lot of excitement– Staten Island was expanding at a rapid rate, and The Colonnade Diner arrived as one of the first mega diners on Staten Island.

In those early years we were nicknamed “The Disco Diner”. At the time, Hylan Boulevard was loaded with clubs and discos. Staten Islanders who were out clubbing often stopped by the Colonnade for a late night meal or just to see who was there. The jukebox never stopped pumping out hits all night long. It has always been a place to meet with old friends or make new ones. Many couples have met in our diner and have even gone on to be married.

Through the years we have witnessed many anxious guys get down on their knee to propose and get a huge round of applause from all the patrons who witnessed the romantic and spontaneous event. Even with close to 40 years in business we still cherish those moments.

The Colonnade Today

The original diner had approximately 175 seats. Twice renovated through the years, we now incorporate a private banquet room, where our customers can still come and celebrate the special times of their lives. Weddings, showers and Sweet Sixteens, just to name a few, all have kept the tradition of celebration and fun continuing to this day. The future looks bright and will be even brighter on our outdoor deck where customers can dine and relax.

We invite you, your family and friends to join us anytime, for any kind of meal.

Most importantly, we want to thank all our customers, past, present and future. It is our honor to serve you!
